Bald Eagle Program | Lake Pleasant Regional Park

Seasonal Bald Eagle Closure

The annual Bald Eagle Closure is typically in effect from December 15 through June 15.

During this time, access to the lower Agua Fria arm is restricted to protect nesting bald eagles. Visitors are asked not to enter this area by watercraft while the closure is in place. Violations may result in enforcement action.

Why the Closure Is Important

The Agua Fria arm is one of a limited number of designated bald eagle breeding areas in Arizona.

During breeding season— including courtship, nesting, incubation, and fledging— human disturbance near nest sites can cause nest abandonment or failure. Even brief or unintentional disturbances can affect the success of these protected birds.

Seasonal closures help reduce impacts and support successful nesting.
