Plan Your Visit to Usery Mountain Regional Park

Whether you have an hour or a full day, Usery Mountain Regional Park offers a variety of ways to explore the Sonoran Desert. Use these sample itineraries to help plan your visit.


1–2 Hours

Short on time? You can still experience a lot:

  • Merkle Trail (1 mile, barrier-free)
    • Enjoy a leisurely stroll on this accessible interpretive trail, suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
  • Wind Cave Trail (3 miles round-trip)
    • The park’s most popular trail, with scenic views along the way. Hike as far as you’d like—even a partial hike offers great rewards.
  • Scenic Loop Hike (3.2 miles)
    • Start at the Trailhead Staging Area:
    • Blevins Trail → Cat Peaks Trail → Meridian Trail → Blevins Trail
    • A great introduction to the park’s desert landscape.
  • Visit the Nature Center
    • Meet park staff, explore exhibits, and browse books, gifts, and essentials.
  • Enjoy a Picnic
    • Relax under a shaded ramada with family and friends.
  • Join a Ranger Program
    • Many interpretive programs are included with park entry. Check the calendar for times and details.

2–3 Hours

Ready to explore more?

  • The Viewpoint (Pass Mountain Trail – ~4 miles round-trip)
    • Hike to a scenic overlook with sweeping views of surrounding mountain ranges and wilderness areas.
  • Combine a short hike with a ranger-led program for a well-rounded visit.

3 Hours or more

Looking for a flexible adventure?

  • Create Your Own Loop
    • Start at the Trailhead Staging Area and explore a mix of:
      • Blevins Trail
      • Moon Rock Trail
      • Cat Peaks Trail
  • Or combine activities from the 1–2 hour options for a customized experience.

4–5 Hours

Up for a challenge?

  • Pass Mountain Trail (7.5 miles)
    • The park’s longest and most challenging trail, offering panoramic desert views, diverse terrain, and a rewarding workout.
  • Mix and match shorter hikes and activities to build your ideal day.

Want to dive deeper into the Sonoran Desert?

  • Interpretive Programs. Indoor and outdoor programs available for all ages, including daytime and evening options.
  • Archery Programs. Learn the basics with Archery 101 or build your skills with Archery 202. Equipment is provided.
  • Don’t Miss:
    • Full Moon Hike
    • Animal Flashlight Walk
