Rainbow Valley & Coldwater Trailhead Closure
Trailhead Closure Notice
The Rainbow Valley and Coldwater Trailheads will be closed from February 3, 2025, through March 2027 to allow for construction of a new 50-site campground with amenities.
If construction is completed ahead of schedule, the trailheads will reopen earlier.
Roadway Closures
During this time, visitors will not be able to access:
- The Rainbow Valley Trailhead
- The Coldwater Trailhead
- The associated parking lot
Please follow posted signage and detours.
Access to Rainbow Valley & Coldwater Trails
Trail access remains available from alternate trailheads:
- Baseline Trailhead – Access for hikers and mountain bikers
- Gila Trailhead – Access for hikers only
- Quail Trailhead – Access for all trail users
Connector trails provide access to Rainbow Valley and Coldwater Trails from these locations. Please plan accordingly.

Campground Project
Over the next two years, construction crews will be working in Estrella Mountain Regional Park to build a new campground. This project is part of the park’s 2016 Master Plan and will be located in the area that previously housed the rodeo arena.
The new campground is designed to expand overnight accommodations and enhance visitor amenities.
Project Features:
The campground area will include:
- 50 developed campsites
- Two (2) restroom buildings with showers
- Five (5) covered Camp Host sites
- A fenced equestrian trailhead
- A designated dog area
- A dump station
- Improvements to the Rainbow Valley Trailhead
Construction activities may impact nearby areas during the project timeline. Visitors are encouraged to follow posted signage and check the park website for updates.
