EQUESTRIAN USE

Equestrians are welcome at all Maricopa County Parks and may enter the park with their own horse. Horses must remain on designated trails at all times. Unless a trail is clearly marked otherwise, all trails are shared by hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. All trail users are encouraged to follow proper trail etiquette and be courteous to others.

Horse Staging Area

A horse staging area is available at this park for unloading and preparing your horse. Please visit the park maps section to view designated trails and staging locations.

Trails

Cave Creek Regional Park offers more than 11 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Trail lengths range from 0.2 miles to 5.8 miles. Difficulty levels vary from easy to difficult.

For an easy and shorter hike, the Slate Trail is recommended. For a longer and more challenging experience, try the 5.8-mile Go John Trail.

The park’s trails are popular for their elevation changes, which provide scenic views of the surrounding desert and plains.

Unless otherwise marked, all trails are shared-use. All visitors are encouraged to follow proper trail etiquette and be mindful of others.

For your safety, bring plenty of water and let someone know your plans before heading out on the trail.

Horseback Riding Stables

Experience the history of Cave Creek Regional Park with a guided horseback ride. These rides highlight the area’s mining and ranching past and offer views of the desert landscape and the Phoenix area. Knowledgeable guides share information about desert plants, wildlife, and local history.
