Maricopa County Parks Launches Annual 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge

100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge - Hike, Run, Horseback Ride, or Mountain Bike Ride your way to the end!As the weather cools and pumpkin spice season kicks in, the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department invites residents and visitors to swap their coffee cups for water bottles and hit the trails for the annual 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge, starting Saturday, November 1.

“With more than 600 miles of trails to explore, Maricopa County’s parks are the perfect place to get outdoors and enjoy the season,” said Jennifer Waller, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department Director. “The 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge gives everyone a fun reason to explore new parks, stay active, and connect with the natural beauty that surrounds us.”

Initially launched in 2012 as part of the County’s centennial celebration, the Challenge has grown into one of the department’s most popular traditions. The goal is simple: hike, bike, run, or horseback ride 100 or 200 miles in 100 days, depending on how you choose to complete the Challenge.

Last year’s participants proved that the sky’s the limit. Of the 610 people who completed the Challenge, one individual logged over 900 miles, and four participants surpassed 500 miles! Together, participants covered a staggering 101,721 miles on county trails, all while having fun and reconnecting with nature.

To help keep participants motivated during the busy holiday season, the department hosts a Facebook community page where participants can share progress, exchange trail tips, post photos, and celebrate milestones together.

Those who complete the Challenge are entered into a grand-prize drawing for an annual park pass ($85 value) and a $25 Nature Center retail voucher, for a total prize package worth $110.

So, whether you prefer hiking boots, running shoes, a mountain bike, or a saddle, it’s time to get moving, because the 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge begins November 1 and runs through 4 p.m. on February 8, 2026.
