The department has been awarded an invasive species removal grant from the Department of Forestry and Fire Management. To comply with the guidelines outlined in the grant, the department will be taking steps in the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area to:
- mitigate invasive species,
- reduce wildfire fuel, and
- restore native plants in the area
The project is slated to begin in February and conclude in December. However, the majority of the work will occur between February and May 2021. Select areas will be treated during the summer/fall/winter months.
Intermittent trail closures will occur throughout the treatment time. Please check the department's website, social media sites, and park kiosks regularly throughout the calendar year for updates. Information on intermittent trail closures will be posted 48-hours before the select trail closures.
The project is part of a regional collaborative effort with our partners: the Desert Defenders Program and Town of Cave Creek.
