Ranger Nikki will lead you on an easy to moderate terrain 2-mile walk to learn about common spring wildflowers and flowering shrubs. Possible sightings include fiddleneck, poppies, lupine, scorpionweed, brittlebush, globemallow and more! You can also learn how to document your findings on the citizen science app, iNaturalist. The route uses Spur Cross and Metate Trails to make a loop. The trail surface ranges from smooth and level to rocky and uneven. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring snacks and plenty of water (none available at trailhead). Bring a camera and notebook to log your observations. This walk has two sessions: 8:30-10:30am and 11am-1pm. Please indicate your session preference when registering. Portable restrooms are available at the trailhead.
MEETING LOCATION: Main trailhead at covered tables
*Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $3 per person. Annual Pass or CASH are accepted, and exact change is much appreciated. If the fee station past the parking lot is closed, there are iron rangers with envelopes to place your payment in.
