The park’s garden was designed to serve as an oasis in the desert, with plants that serve as gracious hosts providing food and shelter for a variety of pollinator species. Walk with Ranger Nikki to see and learn about ocotillo, globemallow, desert willow, penstemon and more. Of special interest are several types of native milkweed, where it is not uncommon to see Monarchs perched and gathering nectar to fuel their journeys in fall and spring. We may also see hummingbirds, beetles, several bee species, Queen and sulfur butterflies, and many others that crawl, glide, hover and flit! We will walk approximately ½ mile through the garden and nearby paths that are flat packed gravel and cement sidewalk. To increase our chances of getting up close with skittish pollinators, No pets, please. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the Nature Center on your way to the Meeting Location.
