April is Native Plant Month, and we are always ready to give our native plants a little love. Come along and learn more about some common – and not-so-common – desert annuals, cactus, shrubs and trees. This hike will take us up into the mountains where we will start to see some higher elevation species. Plus, we’ll talk about why using native plants in your front/backyard landscape is a great idea. We’ll hike about 9 miles in total, and trails are rated moderate-very difficult. Participants should expect challenging conditions throughout, including steep ascents and descents, loose rock, and elevation change.
Note: Please know your fitness level. If you’re not accustomed to hikes of this length or intensity, work up to this one by doing some of our shorter hikes. Please bring plenty of water (minimum three liters recommended, plus you may want to have some additional water in your vehicle for after the hike), electrolytes, snacks, and wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear. Proper clothing (layers), sunscreen, and hat are strongly recommended. Trekking poles may be useful. Restrooms and water are available at the trailhead. NO pets, please.
