White Tank Mountain Regional Park

Rattlesnakes are great mothers but not so good at calendars. Ranger Shaun’s doing Mother’s Day again today for them.

Live birth and for some species even a period of guarding at a communal den site. That sounds like mothering to me. Rattlesnakes may not be as good as most human mothers, but they outscore most other reptiles at the very least. Let’s go on an early morning walk and see what sort of reptiles, rattly and otherwise, we might find getting things done before the temperature gets too toasty.

This will be a roughly 1-mile hike on a medium rated trail. While we will likely be done before the temperature gets too high, extra water is recommended. Closed toed shoes and drinking water are required. Hats and sunscreen are recommended. While hiking sticks or poles are not required you are welcome to bring whatever equipment makes you comfortable. No pets, please.
