Discovery Station: Be a Citizen Scientist!

Monday, April 27, 2026
08:00 AM - 09:00 AM
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
44000 N. Spur Cross Road
Cave Creek, AZ 85331

(602) 506-2930 ext 8

Stop by an information table where Ranger Kevin will teach you how to use your phone to identify and document your nature findings to help the scientific community. Click program title for more details.

Ranger Kevin hosts a drop-in information table to get you on your way to becoming a Citizen Scientist using the free iNaturalist app that identifies and documents nature photos that you take with your phone. Learn about flowers, trees, birds, bugs and even fungi around you while creating a log of all the cool nature specimens you’ve seen on your adventures, along with their locations and dates seen. At the same time, you will create an online biodiversity record for the scientific community to use in studying populations, occurrence ranges, seasonal changes and more! Due to limited connectivity in parks, it is advised to download the iNaturalist app before arriving at the park. Wear closed-toe shoes, a hat and sunscreen if you are hiking afterwards and bring plenty of water. Restrooms are available at the Spur Cross trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: Spur Cross trailhead (near the picnic tables under the covered patio).

Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $5 per person. Annual Pass or CASH are accepted, and exact change is much appreciated. If the fee station past the parking lot is closed, there are iron rangers with envelopes to place your payment in.

No registration required.
