The US National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for our area. Maricopa County Parks & Recreation takes the safety of our visitors seriously. As such, to align with local weather officials' recommendation of avoiding outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, the decision has been made to cancel this program. This website is the best source of up-to-date information about the status of Ranger programs. We hope you'll check back here and consider attending another of our many upcoming programs!
Tired of skipping hikes because of the summer heat? You don’t have to put your boots away just yet—experience the desert in a whole new light (or lack of it) on this guided night hike! We’ll explore nearly 3 miles of scenic trails—Blevins, Cat Peaks, and Cat Peak Pass—on this moderate-rated hike with about 100 ft elevation gain and big views, including a beautiful overlook of the city lights from the hilltop. Hiking at night is a whole different vibe: cooler temps, quiet trails, and the magic of desert landscapes under a starlit sky. Even better, you won’t be going it alone—this is a great chance to meet fellow hikers and enjoy the outdoors together in a safe and relaxed group setting.
We'll share a few quick tips along the way to help you stay comfortable and confident hiking after dark—like how to avoid losing your way or running into any prickly surprises. What to bring: • A headlamp or flashlight (a must!) • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes • Plenty of water (electrolyte drinks highly recommended) • Optional but nice: snacks for the top, a cooling towel, or a buff to help you stay refreshed. Restrooms and a water fountain are available at the trailhead where we’ll meet. It’s also smart to stash some extra cold water and drinks in your car for when you finish the hike. Come enjoy the cool side of summer hiking—it’s a fun, low-key way to stay active, soak in some nighttime desert beauty, and share the trail with others. We’d love to have you along!
