Join Ranger Nikki on a hike to learn about a variety of cacti in our Sonoran Desert. Click program title for more details.

Ranger Nikki will teach you all about the cacti found in our parks - cholla, barrel, hedgehog, prickly pear and the iconic saguaro. Learn how to identify them, how they survive and how they serve an important role in our desert ecosystem. The route uses Roadrunner Trail for an out-and-back walk that is just under 2 miles total. The trail is rated easy with little elevation change and has small to medium rocks underfoot. Wear closed-toe shoes and sun protective clothing and bring snacks and plenty of water. Restrooms are available at the Discovery Center. The center will not yet be open to purchase water so please bring plenty from home.
