Join Ranger Kevin for a leisurely afternoon hike along the Spur Cross and Metate trails.

Join Ranger Kevin for an approximately 2.1-mile loop on the Spur Cross and Metate/Towhee Loop trails. We’ll use this time to unplug from our hectic, digital lives and observe the peaceful beauty and analog wonders of the Sonoran Desert. We won’t be setting any speed records here; this hike is all about taking our time and appreciating the natural world. The trail is rated easy with mostly clear trail conditions and little elevation change. As time (and participant interest) permits, we may add on the Fairy Duster Loop in the hopes of seeing some additional late day birds and butterflies. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats and sunscreen are also highly recommended. We’ll meet at the trailhead just past the entry station, near the bathrooms and covered picnic tables. NO pets, please.

Please note: Entry to Spur Cross Conservation Area is $3 per person. Cash only is accepted, and exact change is much appreciated.

Limit 20 participants. To register, please email Ranger Kevin at kevin.thorson@maricopa.gov. Please indicate that you’d like to register for the P.M./Unplug hike, your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please email back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 3/1/23.
