Join Ranger Eric for a challenging hike while learning about the Sonoran Desert, including wildflowers and butterflies! Click on program title for more details.

Join Ranger Eric for a guided 7.5-mile difficult-rated loop hike of the Pass Mountain loop trail through Usery Mountain Regional Park and the adjacent Tonto National Forest while learning about the plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert ecosystem, with a special emphasis on late-spring wildflowers and butterflies. This spring is shaping up to have a good wildflower show in the desert due to the fall and winter rains! This is also the time of year when various reptiles emerge and birds are nesting, so we will have lots to look at! Parts of the trail will have uneven and rocky surfaces. Please wear protective clothing or sunblock, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water and snacks for yourself. Restrooms are available at the Trailhead Staging Area and Wind Cave parking lot which the trail goes through, but none are available in the backcountry. MEETING LOCATION: Trailhead Staging Area. See park map here: https://www.maricopacountyparks.net/assets/1/6/usery-8x14-Jan-2021.pdf

Limit 12 participants. To register, please call the Usery Nature Center at 602-506-2930 ext. 4 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call back ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on Wednesday, 4/5/23.
