Learn about mesquite woodlands and their importance to people and wildlife of the Southwest on this guided walk. For more details, please click on the program title.

You may have heard of mesquite grilling with food, but did you know that mesquite woodlands, or bosques, provide important habitat for wildlife and were used as a food source by native people? Join Ranger Eric and park host Terry Zaugg as we explore some of the Preserve's mesquite bosques and discuss their ecological and ethnobotanical importance to the Southwest. Among the wildlife we may see are the Lucy's warblers, which we recently installed nest boxes for to help out their populations. These tiny songbirds will be singing from the woods and starting to nest. This guided walk will be on mostly flat, but sometimes sandy, trails from 9:00-11:00am. To register, please call the Visitor Center at 928-684-2772.
