Join Ranger Derik on a hike through the park as the sun sets and learn about the plants and animals that call this magical place home. Click program title for more details.

The hike will cover 3.3 miles along sections of the Grey Fox and Ford Canyon trails offering sweeping views of the city lights and the White Tank mountains. All hikers should have close toed shoe, water, a working flashlight (cellphones are not powerful enough) and if you have balance difficulties hiking poles are recommended. Along the hike the ranger will stop to talk about cacti, insects, native trees, reptiles, and birds. On the way back to the parking lot participants will be able to hunt for scorpions and other nocturnal creatures. If you have a blacklight feel free to bring it along but they are not necessary for the hike. There is no water access at the trailhead but there is a porta potty available.

MEETING LOCATION: Grey Fox trailhead located in the far northern part of the park please add 10 minutes to get there from the park entrance)

PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.

Limit 30 participants. To register, please call the Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 5 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 9/2/26.
