Look for and learn about reptiles of the Sonoran Desert on this early morning hike with Ranger Eric. Click program title for more details!

Join Ranger Eric for a 1-2 mile hike along the scenic Rock Peak Wash Trail to look for and learn about reptiles of the Sonoran Desert. Along the way, we’ll discuss identification, behavior, and ecology of our local reptiles, as well as talk about safety around venomous wildlife. The trail is rated as moderate due to the sandy and uneven terrain we will be hiking on, but the trail is otherwise fairly flat. The distance and duration of the hike may be shortened depending on heat. Please bring ample water, electrolytes, sun protection, and sturdy footwear. It is highly recommended to pre-hydrate and have electrolytes before you arrive. Restrooms are NOT available at the trailhead.

MEETING LOCATION: Rock Peak Wash Trailhead at south end of the park.

Exact location (Google Maps): https://maps.app.goo.gl/ht9ERx9xULfjfy6f8

Restrooms are NOT available at the trailhead, but are available at the Nature Center about a 10-minute drive away. Self-pay envelopes are available at the trailhead ($10 per vehicle); please bring cash! Maricopa County Parks annual passes also accepted (place hangtag on rearview mirror). You could also pay at the Nature Center window before you drive over to the Rock Peak Wash Trailhead (the park opens at 5:00am).

Limit 15 participants. To register, please call the San Tan Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 7 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call the Nature Center ASAP so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close on 7/20.

PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s status.
