Whether you want an easy-paced, handicapped-accessible stroll or are wanting an easy warm-up hike as you begin participating in this year’s “100 Miles in 100 Days” hiking challenge at Maricopa County Parks, this guided hike with Ranger Eric should be up your alley! We will walk the 0.5-mile, barrier-free Palm Lake Trail, which takes visitors through mesquite bosque and cottonwood-willow gallery forest around a 5-acre spring-fed pond. Along the way, we will talk about the desert riparian ecosystem, the historic grove of 150 year-old California fan palms, and look at the wildlife and plants that we encounter. We may have some early fall color starting on the willow and mulberry trees as a bonus. The walk should take 1.5-2 hours. Some binoculars are available to borrow at the Visitor Center. Please wear sturdy footwear and sun protection, and carry ample water. Restrooms and a water bottle filling station are located off of the parking lot in front of the Visitor Center.
This hike is a great way to make progress towards your goal if you are participating in Maricopa County Park’s “100 Miles in 100 Days” hiking challenge (Nov. 1-Feb. 8).
