Join Ranger Jacque for a scenic 2 mile hike through the stunning Sonoran Desert and discover its unique beauty and amazing wildlife as the sun sets. Click program title for details!

Take a 2 mile loop hike along the Metate and Spur Cross trails with Ranger Jacque. Along the way, we will explore why the Sonoran Desert ranks as one of the most biodiverse deserts on the planet. Keep your eyes open for wildlife like mule deer, squirrels, rabbits, a variety of bird species, and plenty of reptiles that call this desert home. This easy moderate trail includes some loose rocks, uneven ground, and gentle elevation changes, so sturdy closed toe shoes are recommended. Be sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection like hats and sunscreen. Restrooms are portapotties and there is no water available in the park, so please come prepared. The meeting location is nearly a quarter mile walk from the parking lot, so please allow extra time for the walk and to self pay at the contact station. Entry to the park is $5 cash per person 16 and up (bring exact change or annual pass; no cards nor digital payment accepted).

Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.

MEETING LOCATION: Covered picnic tables past the entry station

Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Cave Creek Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending. If you find you cannot attend a program after you have registered, please call back ASAP so those on the waiting list may be contacted. Registration for this program will close on 09/09/26.
