Join Ranger Nikki on a slow-paced walk to observe scorpions and other nocturnal animals. Click program title for more details.

Ranger Nikki will lead you on a walk to search for bark, striped-tail and giant hairy scorpions as well as other nocturnal critters such as bats, owls, tarantulas, kangaroo rats and more. The route follows Pemberton Trail south to the historic pond site and comes back the same way for a maximum distance of 2 miles. The terrain is mostly level but there are a few spots that are uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot. There are also a few areas with short, but steep, smooth slopes. Bring your UV blacklight to find scorpions and a regular flashlight to spotlight other critters and to light your way. No pets, please. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the Trailhead. Please bring $10 cash for the self-pay station or your annual pass to display on your vehicle.

Please note: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park. http://www.maricopa.gov/parks
