The hike is rated as moderate only for the final 100ft elevation gain to the top of Lykes Lookout however the rest of the hike is on even flat ground. The hike itself will cover sections of Palm Lake, Mesquite meander and Lykes lookout trails and be just over 2 miles in length. Water and bathrooms can be found next to the main parking lot. Hikers should have a water bottle, wear supportive close toed shoes, and dress approximately for the weather. Flashlights are available to rent without a fee from the visitor center. Cellphone lights will not be sufficient.
