Ranger Olivia leads this picturesque hike to watch the sunset while also learning about saguaros along the way. We will see the sunset, saguaros, saguaro blossoms, and maybe some evening critters as well. You may bring your black light and regular flashlight to look for evening critters(optional). This hike will be about 2 miles starting on the Spur Cross trail, where the terrain is mostly flat but is rocky and uneven in spots (and a slight hill on the beginning), and then we will move onto part of the Tortuga trail as well. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water. Port-able restrooms are available at the trailhead, but there is NO potable water in the park. Be sure to bring plenty of water with you! Spur Cross is CASH ONLY, please bring $5 per person for the entry fee.
PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.
MEETING LOCATION: Picnic tables past the entry station. Please note that once you have parked in the designated lot it is about a quarter of a mile to reach the trailhead. Allow time for this walk and stopping at the entry station.
