The hike will cover 3.5 miles along sections of the Rock Peak wash and Malpais trails. While the elevation of this hike is minimal, much of the hike is along sandy and rocky wash (think walking on a beach without the water). Hikers should bring plenty of water and come prepared with sturdy shoes and sunscreen. Hikers are encouraged to drink water throughout the day to get prepared. The trailhead does not have water or bathroom access, but you can stop by the nature center on your way to the trailhead. All hikers should have at least 1 working flashlight with a full charge or extra batteries.
