Explore the beauty of Lake Pleasant on a cruise narrated by a Park Ranger. Learn about the history, flora, and fauna of this oasis in the desert that serves as both a massive storage reservoir and a popular outdoor recreation destination for residents and visitors alike. The boat will make brief informational stops along the way at Waddell Dam and select spots along the shoreline and open water.
In honor of celebrating America’s 250th birthday, we will also highlight the complexities of water rights, water use, and dam development, including the role of the Bureau of Reclamation in managing water and land resources. These topics will be explored in relation to both Arizona’s history and the broader history of the United States, offering insight into how water has shaped life and growth in the desert past, present, and future.
The Ranger will also point out any incidental occurrences of resident animals, such as bald eagles, egrets, wild burros, and more! Restrooms are available at the marina dock and aboard the boat. Water (fountain or purchase) is available at the marina dock. (Other morning and evening ranger-narrated cruise options can be viewed on the Scorpion Bay Marina website under Fleet Rentals then Sunset and Ranger Cruises).
