National Take a Hike Day is celebrated each year on November 17 in recognition of the National Trails System Act of 1968. This Act designated a series of scenic, historic and recreation trails in both backcountry and urban areas in an effort to provide outdoor opportunities for the public. Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department encourage you to connect with nature on a ranger-led hike, on this day or any day, to explore and learn about our beautiful Sonoran Desert. To ensure everyone can enjoy this nationally recognized day, the regular day-use entry fee for all of Maricopa County’s regional parks will be waived on November 17.
We’ll be on the lookout for all kinds of evening-active critters, from coyotes to, spiders, snakes, fox, deer, owls and of course scorpions! Bring flashlights; black UV lights are optional. This will be about a 2-mile out and back hike along the Waterfall Trail, this trail is rated easy and is mostly flat with some unlevel, or rocky areas so please wear close toed shoes. There will be restrooms and water at the trailhead but, please bring plenty of water. Please no pets.
