Spur Cross is turning 25! To celebrate, join us for an epic 7-mile hike to visit an ancient Hohokam hilltop site on Elephant Mountain. The hike will consist of steep inclines on rocky and loose ground with about 1400ft of elevation change over the course of the 7 miles. This hike is only recommended for people with significant hiking experience as this is a difficult and strenuous hike. Sturdy boots with good ankle support and trekking poles are highly encouraged to assist with uphill and downhill hiking as well as for stability on loose terrain. There are no water fountains at the park so please plan ahead (we recommend at least three liters of water). As it will be winter, and we will be hiking to a higher elevation, please dress in layers that can be changed as the temperatures fluctuate throughout the day and expect some wind. The hike will begin at the main trailhead area where picnic tables and portable restrooms are located. Limit 30 participants. If you become unable to attend the hike, please call back as soon as possible so those on the wait list can be added to the hike.
