Learn all about plants of the Sonoran Desert during this guided hike with Ranger Eric. Click on program title for more details.

Join Ranger Eric for a guided hike to learn about the plants and ecology of the Sonoran Desert and riparian woodlands. We have a chance of seeing early spring wildflowers following the rains we had this past fall. We will hike 2.6 miles roundtrip on a loop of Spur Cross, Metate, and Towhee Trails, including stopping by the Solar Oasis where we may see wildlife coming in for a drink. Hiking will be on easy-moderate grade, with frequently rocky or uneven ground. The entire hike takes 2-2.5 hours, depending on our pace. There are also some of the largest saguaros you can see anywhere along the Metate Trail, as well as archaeological sites. Please dress in layers, wear protective clothing and/or sunscreen, wear sturdy footwear, and carry ample water, electrolytes, and snacks for yourself. Porta-potties and fee station are located 200 ft beyond the parking lot. No water available, so bring your own.

MEETING LOCATION: Trailhead ramada with picnic tables and portapotties 0.2-mile up the road from the Spur Cross parking lot.
