Discover the magic of our desert in summer with a chance to see critters on the move and possibly monsoon-related flowers and blooms. Saguaros, cholla, legume trees, shrubs and possibly flowers are on the agenda for a discussion on life cycles and adaptations. Of course, there will be birds, lizards, bugs and other animals to talk about, as well. The route uses Slate Trail for an out-and-back hike of maximum 2.5 miles. The terrain ranges from smooth and level to uneven with small to medium rocks underfoot. Wear closed-toe shoes, a hat and sun-protective clothing. Bring plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available at the trailhead.
(If you would like to learn more about plants in our desert, there is a separate indoor presentation after this hike. See listing for Edible Desert Plants at 9am).
