Ranger Olivia will teach you all about the cacti found in our park - cholla, barrel, hedgehog, prickly pear and the iconic saguaro. Learn how to identify them, how they survive and how they serve an important role in our desert ecosystem. We will start along the Spur Cross trail which is mostly flat with some uneven/rocky surfaces, where we will connect onto the Fairy Duster trail loop that is also flat with some uneven areas. Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring plenty of water for this 1.5-mile hike. Portable restrooms are available at the trailhead, but there is NO potable water in the park. Bring any questions you have about the cacti that reside in the desert!
PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.
MEETING LOCATION: Picnic Tables past the entry booth. Please note that once you have parked in the designated lot it is about a quarter of a mile to reach the trailhead. Allow time for this walk and stopping at the entry station.
Limit 20 participants. To register, please call the Cave Creek Nature Center at (602) 506-2930 ext. 8 with your name, phone number and number of people attending.
