Discover the hidden world of scorpions on this Scorpion Safari! The adventure begins at the trailhead/picnic area, where there are port-a-johns, but no water fountains. The program starts with a 15-minute overview on scorpion identification and behavior before we head out in search of these fascinating arachnids. We'll walk about a mile along the Towhee and Metate trails using black lights to spot glowing scorpions along the way. Trail can be rocky, sandy, and uneven. Be prepared for an hour plus outdoors—wear closed-toe shoes, bring a water bottle, and dress appropriately. Don’t forget your black light for the best scorpion-spotting experience! Note that the trailhead is almost a quarter mile walk from the parking lot, and only cash is accepted at the contact station. Please allow time to park and self pay.
PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park.
