Join Ranger Kevin for a 3-mile hike on the Slate trail amidst the late spring beauty of the desert. The trail is rated easy, which means very little loose rock, uneven terrain and elevation change. While out on the trail, we will learn about the ongoing project to catalog the Sonoran Desert’s amazing saguaro cacti. We will be surveying our local population for signs of stress and submitting our observations using the iNaturalist app (participants are encouraged to download the app prior to arriving at the park; there is no Wi-Fi and signal strength is unreliable in most parts of the park). We’ll also be on the lookout for late spring wildflowers as well as blooming shrubs and trees. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. Hats, clothes appropriate to the terrain and weather, and sunscreen are highly recommended. Restrooms can be found near the trailhead and water is available at the Nature Center. NO pets please.
