Maricopa County Parks and Recreation invites residents and visitors to take part in the annual 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge, beginning November 1.

“With more than 600 miles of trails across our regional park system, there is always somewhere new to explore,” said Jennifer Waller, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Director. “The 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge is a great way to stay active, discover new parks and trails, and enjoy everything the Sonoran Desert has to offer during one of the best times of the year to be outdoors.”

Launched in 2012 as part of Maricopa County’s centennial celebration, the Challenge has become one of the department’s most popular annual traditions. Participants have 100 days to complete 100 miles by hiking, running, or horseback riding, or 200 miles by mountain bike.

Last year, 603 participants completed the Challenge, collectively logging an impressive 80,415 miles on County trails. One participant recorded more than 1,050 miles, while 22 others surpassed the 300-mile mark.

Participants can also join the Challenge’s Facebook community page to share their progress, exchange trail recommendations, post photos, encourage fellow participants, and celebrate milestones along the way.

Those who successfully complete the Challenge will be entered into a grand-prize drawing for an annual park pass ($140 value) and a $25 Nature Center retail voucher, for a total prize package valued at $165.

Whether your preferred trail companion is a pair of hiking boots, running shoes, two wheels, or four hooves, there are plenty of ways to reach the finish line. The 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge begins November 1, 2026, and continues through 4 p.m. on February 8, 2027.
