Usery: Pass Mountain Trail Update

Effective May 29, 2020, visitors to the Tonto National Forest will not be allowed to ride or take a horse, mule, burro or donkey into the area where the Salt River Horses currently reside (map below).

In coordination with the Arizona Department of Agriculture, the Tonto National Forest is enacting a closure order to prevent the potential spread of an equine virus in which the disease from the Salt River Horses could be transmitted to visitors’ horses.

The closure order includes all sections of the Pass Mountain Trail beyond the boundary of Usery Mountain Regional Park.

The detailed order can be found on the Tonto National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/tonto by clicking on the Closure Orders & Restrictions in Effect link.
