The trails at Hassayampa are self-guided and take you through a variety of beautiful landscapes — from lush river bottoms and wide floodplains to towering cottonwood-willow forests and shady mesquite bosques (that’s Spanish for “forest”) found only along desert waterways.
As you explore, keep an eye out for flashes of color — maybe a bright vermilion flycatcher or an Abert’s towhee darting through the trees. One of the highlights is the loop around Palm Lake, where you can often spot waterfowl you’d rarely see elsewhere in the desert.
