Hiking
The trails at Hassayampa River Preserve are self-guided and lead visitors through a variety of desert riparian habitats. Along the way, you may experience lush riverbanks, wide floodplains, cottonwood and willow forests, and shaded mesquite woodlands that grow along desert waterways.
Wildlife viewing is a highlight of many hikes. Watch for birds such as the vermilion flycatcher or Abert’s towhee moving through the trees.
One popular section of the trail loops around Palm Lake, where visitors often observe waterfowl and other wildlife not commonly seen in the desert.
Take your time, walk quietly, and enjoy the diverse landscapes found along the preserve’s trails.
