Competitive Track

The competitive track at Estrella Mountain Regional Park is the third competitive track developed within the Maricopa County Regional Park system. It was originally completed in February 2000 and has since been updated to include multiple loop options.

Today, the track offers four loops with five route options, totaling approximately 16.8 miles:

  • Beginner Loop
  • Junior Loop
  • Technical Loop (experts only)
  • Long Loop – Mountain Pass
  • Long Loop (9.5 miles)

The Long Loop provides a challenging ride but can be used by riders of varying skill levels. The Technical Loop is nearly five miles in length and is recommended for experienced riders only.

Track Features

The competitive track is primarily used by mountain bicyclists. It may also be used occasionally by cross-country runners and endurance horseback riders.

The course is designed for higher speeds and racing events. Riders can expect:

  • Steep climbs and descents
  • Tight turns and fast corners
  • Rugged, rocky terrain

Track Development

The development of the Estrella competitive track was made possible through a partnership with Phoenix International Raceway (PIR). PIR construction crews assisted with building access roads, service roads, parking lots, and a nearby group campground.
