A quiet desert escape with scenic views and a touch of history

CProvorse-BuckeyeHillsRegionalParkJust five miles southwest of the City of Buckeye, along State Route 85, you’ll find Buckeye Hills Regional Park — a peaceful stretch of 4,474 acres of rolling desert hills overlooking the south bank of the Gila River.

This rugged landscape offers a glimpse into the natural beauty and deep history of Arizona’s desert Southwest. Long ago, the Gila River marked the southern boundary of the United States until the Gadsden Purchase of 1853 added southern Arizona and New Mexico to the nation — a move that helped shape the railroad routes and communities we know today.

What You’ll Find
Buckeye Hills is a great spot for picnicking, hiking, and enjoying wide-open desert views away from the crowds. The park features:

  • 50 picnic tables and cooking grills
  • Two large ramadas perfect for gatherings or group outings
  • A public shooting range located at the southern end of the park

Please note that water is not available in the recreation area, so be sure to bring your own supply.
