Maricopa County Parks and Recreation

Volunteer Photos

The volunteers of the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department serve over 90,000 hours annually in the parks and along the trails. The many roles filled by volunteers are important positions and duties that assist in keeping the parks and vast trail system working as effectively as possible.

There are many ways to serve as a volunteer in the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department. Volunteers have helped by assisting the thousands of visitors who come to the parks each year by helping out in the Nature Centers, Entry Stations, and along the trails. Join this team of amazing volunteers today!

Park Host

Park Hosts assist the Park Supervisors and serve as ambassadors to provide park visitors with information while promoting resource protection and recreation opportunities through visitor education. Each host couple works a minimum of 40-hours per week and lives in the park with complimentary access to water and electricity. Duties may include fee collection, light maintenance work, clerical tasks, and special projects under the supervision of the Park Supervisor. Community Volunteer

Community Volunteers are an integral component of our operations. They live at their own residences in the Phoenix area (year-round or seasonally) and are placed in specialized service positions at our parks. These positions often include working in an entry/fee booth, assisting in a nature center, supporting youth education, and being right hands to our maintenance staff. Community Volunteers can work at one park or choose to assist at different parks. Due to the level of responsibility in this position, prospective Community Volunteers are required to complete a background check and take annual safety training. If you are interested in volunteer opportunities with Maricopa County Parks that are more flexible and do not have these requirements, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at parkvolunteer@mail.maricopa.gov or call 602-506-9510. We will do our best to accommodate your volunteer needs.
