Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day and participate in citizen science with eBird Global Big Day! Join Ranger Eric for a guided bird walk to look and listen for resident and migrant species within the diverse riparian habitat of the Hassayampa River Preserve, as we tally birds with the eBird citizen science app. Along the way, we will discuss how to identify birds by sight and sound, about the behavioral and ecological traits that make them unique, useful bird apps like Merlin, and about citizen science apps like eBird and iNaturalist. We will be in peak spring migration and have the opportunity to see several dozen species of resident and migratory species, as well as observe nesting behavior and birds feeding young.

Some binoculars are available to borrow, but please bring your own if you have them. Please wear sturdy footwear and sun protection, carry ample water and electrolytes for yourself, and pre-hydrate beforehand if the weather forecast for that day ends up being for hotter temperatures. We will be hiking 1-2 miles altogether on mostly flat, but sometimes uneven or sandy trails.
