Sponsored by Friends of Hassayampa and Maricopa County Parks, we are offering a Summer Day Camp geared towards kids in 1st-6th grade (ages 6-12) where they will spend each morning of the ‘camp’ learning about a different nature subject each day from 7:30 to 11:00am. A few rangers will be present each day, along with some Friends of Hassayampa or Preserve volunteers. This year’s topics will be Aquatic Life, Birds, and Reptiles. Activities will include nature journaling while doing easy hikes with our rangers each morning on the Preserve’s trails before it gets too hot, followed by indoor activities and themed snacks in our air-conditioned classroom building. All children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Younger siblings are allowed to tag along, but must be under supervision by parent or guardian. Please register your child(ren) if they are able to attend all 3 days of the program so that they get the opportunity to go through all of the activities. When you register, please state whether your child(ren) have any known food allergies. Restrooms are available at the parking lot and inside the classroom building.
MEETING LOCATION: Visitor Center
Limit 25 kids in 1st-6th grade (6-12 years old) age range. Please sign up your child(ren) if you plan on having them present for all 3 mornings (Wednesday, 7/8 to Friday, 7/10) so they can get to do all of the different activities. All kids must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Younger siblings are allowed to tag along, but must be under supervision by parent or legal guardian.
To register, please email Ranger Eric at eric.hough@maricopa.gov with your name, how many kids you are registering, your phone number, and any food allergies in your group. If you find you cannot attend the program after you have registered, please email back so we may contact those on the waiting list. Registration for this program will close at 12:00pm (noon) on Sunday, 7/5.
PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to inclement weather, including extreme heat events, severe thunderstorms, and wildfires. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online or call the Nature Center before coming to the park.
