Nature Journaling develops focus, concentration, and curiosity by immersing journal writers in a place. In this case, we will immerse ourselves in the Sonoran Desert. Master Naturalist, Joette Conger, will lead the basics of how to nature journal with helpful tips and prompts, but the creation will be up to you! People who have never created a nature journal entry will find that this experience deepens their curiosity and immerses them in a place. Those with experience nature journaling will discover how to broaden their observation and drawing skills. Whether you have experience with drawing, journaling, or crafting this program can be for you; nature journaling is for anyone.
Due to this experience including stopping for about an hour to observe, write and draw please no pets. Participants will hike 2-4 miles on varied terrain ranging from even to uneven with small rocks underfoot with a stop to create a nature journal entry along the way. We will be sitting on rocks for about 45 minutes, so wear something comfy. Bring an unlined notebook/sketchbook or some paper and a writing utensil (utensils can include pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers, etc., but bring whatever you prefer (all are not required).), along with sunscreen, plenty of water and a hat. There are restrooms and water at the meeting location.
