Discover the magic and majesty of the full moon rising over the desert landscape. We’ll climb the short Hilltop trail (about 0.5 miles, 76 ft elevation gain) to watch the moonrise, then stroll down the Tortoise trail to further explore the desert night. The hike is rated easy-moderate, following established trails with loose rock and uneven terrain. We will also keep an eye and ear out for any creatures that may be stirring, such as owls, coyotes, rodents and more. Please wear sturdy closed-toe shoes, bring water, and $10 cash or your annual county pass for the pay station. Small hand-held flashlights are OK; please refrain from using headlamps. No pets, please. This program is weather-dependent. Please allow 15 minutes upon park arrival to use self-pay station and find trailhead, a few miles in.
