We will hike the Wind Cave Trail, which features 800 ft. of elevation gain over a 3-mile roundtrip distance; it is rated as difficult. The trail is steep and rocky, so it is encouraged that you wear sturdy footwear (hiking boots or trail runners) and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, hat, and a snack for the top of the cave, where we will take a well-earned break to admire the views before descending. Trekking poles are strongly encouraged for those with balance difficulties. Restrooms and water are available at the trailhead. It’s a good idea to have electrolytes and more fluids in your car to stay well-hydrated, as well as to pre-hydrate the day before! Come a few minutes early to get a good parking spot in case it fills up.
Please note: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.
