Celebrate National Family Health & Fitness Day on an easy stroll through the preserve with Ranger Nikki. Click program title for more details.

Sponsored by the National Parks and Recreation Association, the second Saturday in June is a special day that encourages families to get active – and what better place to do that than in nature! Join Ranger Nikki for a walk along some of the trails at the preserve and learn about the plants and animals that live in this unique combination of riparian and desert habitat. From the towering palms and cottonwoods down to the low mesquite canopies, we will be on the lookout for a variety of birds, insects and reptiles as well as an elusive mammal or two. The route uses Palm Loop and Mesquite Meander Trails. If time allows, we will add on Lion’s Trail loop. The terrain is mainly flat and compacted but there may be sections that are slightly uneven with small rocks underfoot.  Wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water. Restrooms and water are available in the parking lot adjacent to the Visitor Center.
