Did you know that Wickenburg gets possibly the highest concentrations of migrating Turkey Vultures in Arizona? Or that the highway bridge in town has a colony of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats roosting beneath it? For this special event from 5:00-7:00pm at the Hassayampa River Walk pedestrian bridge near the round-about intersection of Hwy. 60/89/93 in Wickenburg, visitors can watch the magnificent flocks of hundreds of migrating vultures coming in to roost in tall trees nearby in the late afternoon, followed by the spectacular emergence of hundreds to thousands of bats from their roost under the bridge at sunset!
This free, family-friendly, wildlife-viewing event is hosted by the Town of Wickenburg, Maricopa County Parks' Hassayampa River Preserve, Friends of Hassayampa, Wickenburg Conservation Foundation, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Wild at Heart, and Sonoran Audubon. We will have tables with fun and educational activities, binoculars and spotting scopes to look through, and more! Parking is available in nearby historic downtown and within easy walking distance of several excellent restaurants. Bring your friends and family, and experience some of the outdoor wonders that Wickenburg has to offer while taking in our breathtaking Sonoran Desert sunset!
