In honor of America 250, join Ranger Jacque for an evening walk to track down one of the desert's most unique treasures: a rare crested saguaro.
This 2.2-mile walk is rated easy to moderate with a 93-foot elevation change. The path is mostly sandy and rocky as it follows the wash. Along the way, we will discuss the incredible resilience of these desert icons and their vital role in the American landscape. Experience the beauty of the "golden hour" as the sun sets over the Malpais Hills, painting a landscape that has inspired generations of explorers and dreamers.
Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of water and sun protection. Restrooms and water are NOT available at this remote trailhead, so please plan accordingly. Please bring $10 exact change cash per vehicle to cover the park entry fee at the iron ranger.
PLEASE NOTE: Outdoor summer programs may be canceled on short notice due to severe weather, including extreme heat events. The Maricopa County Parks website (www.maricopa.gov/parks) is the most accurate resource for verifying the program’s current status. Please check the program listing online before coming to the park.
