Join Ranger Eric for a stroll through the Preserve's mesquite bosques to learn about this unique ecosystem. Click on program title for more details.

You may have heard of mesquite grilling with food, but did you know that mesquite woodlands, or bosques, provide important habitat for wildlife and were used as a food source by native people? Join Ranger Eric as we explore some of the Preserve's mesquite bosques and discuss their ecological and ethnobotanical importance to the Southwest. Among the wildlife we may see are the Lucy's warblers, which we recently installed nest boxes for in our mesquite groves to help out their populations. These tiny songbirds will be singing from the woods and getting ready to nest. This guided hike will be on mostly flat, but sometimes sandy trails. To register, please call the Visitor Center at 928-684-2772.
