County parks hold public meeting for proposed fee adjustments to specific services

(Phoenix) – Maricopa County’s Parks and Recreation Commission will host a public meeting on Tuesday, September 20 at 9 a.m. in the Dreamy Draw Conference Room located in the Flood Control District Operations Building at 2801 W. Durango Street in Phoenix to discuss proposed fee adjustments.

Fees which may be adjusted or established include:

  • Replacement card for lost/stolen annual pass cards.  The fee would be reduced.
  • Meeting room (San Tan Park only).  The proposed change is to the name of the fee, removing "San Tan Park only."
  • Hassayampa River Preserve Conservation Area Entry Fee. The Department is preparing to assume daily operations of the Hassayampa River Preserve, and is recommending the adoption of The Nature Conservancy’s established fee schedule. The overall fee schedule would not change; however, this is a new fee for the Department’s fee schedule.
  • Kitchen Rental (applies to the Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant). This proposed fee would reinstate the kitchen rental fee for the Desert Outdoor Center that was eliminated in 2010. The fee would be charged for rental of the commercial kitchen during events when meal preparation is requested as part of the facility reservation.

“Prior to making these recommendations, we conducted a cost of service analysis and benchmarked the fee structure against similar park systems in the country, when possible. The fee adjustment that will have the greatest impact on our park visitors is the charge for lost/stolen replacement cards. This fee is currently $15, and we are asking to have it reduced to $3, which will save our customers $12,” said R.J. Cardin, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Director.

If approved, the Parks and Recreation Commission will make a formal recommendation to the County Board of Supervisors for approval of the new fee schedule on December 7, 2016.  Parties interested in providing feedback on the proposed changes are encouraged to attend the Tuesday, September 20 public meeting.
